In 1937, Lee Bin Kao travelled by ship to Sri Lanka to build a new life. Together with his brothers, he helped establish a Chinese restaurant in Colombo Fort, serving crews arriving by sea. That pioneering family spirit is at the heart of Shandong today.

Lee Bin Kao married Pearl, a Sri Lankan woman, and together they raised six children.
Dumplings, mantu and simmering soup became part of life. The family made noodles for local shops and the Army.
Shandong carries forward recipes and a love of cooking passed down over generations, named after Lee Bin Kao’s home province.
In the Kao family, the kitchen was more than a place to cook. It was the heart of the home, where stories were shared over dumplings, roast pork, vegetable chop suey and dishes that brought everyone together.
Shandong celebrates that same warmth today. We bring together authentic Chinese flavours, family traditions and generous hospitality for every new gathering around the table.
